Think of MacGourmet as "iTunes for Recipes". Now bring your recipe organization into the 21st century with MacGourmet. You organize your digital photos, you make playlists of your mp3s. It's free to try the first 20 times you open it, after which you'll need to pay for an upgrade but for those that use it frequently, it is well worth that cost and then some, offering a hugely robust suite of tools that any cook will appreciate.Įditors' note: This is a review of the trial version of MacGourmet for Mac 4.0.3. If you cook a lot, enjoy food, or want a better system than notecards in a box by your refrigerator, download MacGourmet. The interface is astounding in MacGourmet and it runs smoothly no matter what you are doing. There are options to get recipes from the Web, as well, connecting with partner sites to pull them to your database, or searching in Google and providing an interface to copy and paste everything. From there you can start adding recipes, creating cooking notes, making shopping lists, noting your favorite cheeses, beers, wines, and recent meals. You'll need to create a local database, so setup and installation can take a few extra minutes but it only happens once and the app does a great job of walking you through everything. You can also create a account to sync your recipes. MacGourmet also allows drag-and-drop of most files which is what Macs are famous for - ease of use. You can change any of these options later from the preferences menu but this will affect how the app looks at first. It works seamlessly in this regard, providing dozens of useful tools that are reminiscent of iTunes in many ways, making it easy to organize recipe files, create new ones, share them with friends, or print recipes to index cards or other media from your desktop.Īfter installation, you will be prompted to select the layout and interface for MacGourmet when it opens.
